Walkers "Spice Girls Best Ever Fan": 90s Nostalgia | #AD

The 90s is said to be one of the most nostalgic decades of our time. For those who lived through this poptastic decade, you can only imagine the excitement in recent years when 90s style trends came back into fashion! I loved the 90s! Is it because most of the best things that made the decade so great remain there, frozen in time? Or is it because it was the last decade of the 20th century? Before technology took over. When everything we did was for fun not perfection. And when people would prefer to lock their embarrassingly large mobile phones at home or in their desk drawer, rather than sat glued to them in public places. Whatever the reason, those of us who were there all have fond memories of the 90s. I’ve decided to put together a list of my favourite things from the 90s. Plus, don’t forget to keep reading to find out how you can win free tickets to the Spice Girls tour. (This competition is now closed)

The Cute Hairstyles

The 90s certainly stretched the imagination when it came to cute hairstyles, and let's not forget the hundreds of tiny clips and hair accessories we used to add to our hair! There was every variation of pigtail imaginable, from tiny fringe pigtails to those inspired by Britney Spears' music videos. It was also a period in time when it was deemed cool to own a scrunchy, and headbands were for wearing outdoors and not just for washing your face! Then the 00s came around and we ditched the cute and casual hairdos of the 90s for ultra sleek and straight locks, possibly inspired by Jennifer Aniston during her days in Friends.

Slip Dresses

Many sported the cool and chic cami dresses that defined the decade of fun and free-living, but I think it was Kate Moss who will eternally be remembered for her love affair with slip dresses. In fact, slip dresses have been a style staple for Ms. Moss throughout her lengthy career in the fashion industry. They're just one of those perfect garments that you can throw on and look as though you've came as you are, or put in a lot of effort - depending on how you style them. Ever heard of those day-to-night outfits? Well a slip dress (or cami dress) is one of the best fashion items to transform your look from day to night with just a simple switch of a shoe!

Platform Heels

During the early days in her newfound fashion career, Victoria Beckham wrote a book entitled "That Extra Half an Inch". The title stems from an answer she once gave when questioned about why she is always seen in high heels and refuses to give into flats. She mentioned how they give her better posture and she loves heels, but also goes on to reference the title of her book: "she has always just wanted to be that extra half an inch taller." I'm sure that many of us can relate to the former Spice Girl's statement, which is why we willingly suffer the discomfort of heels in order to be that little bit more glamorous and slightly taller. The platform heels of the 1990s were the best solution: comfortable, trendy, and provided you with inches of extra height!

Tamagotchis

In the 1990s every cool kid had a Tamagotchi. Oh...the hours we'd spend feeding it. Watching the egg hatch. Trying to figure out what was wrong with it. Trying to keep it quiet. And then feeling guilty when you were the first of all your friends to kill yours off! It was a rather simple gadget that doesn't compare to any of the popular toys around today, but they kept kids and adults alike entertained for hours!

Cher Horowitz’s Wardrobe

Clueless was a great TV series (and film) back in the day, but how many of you tuned in just to see the ditsy but lovable Cher Horowitz's wardrobe? As kids or teens, Cher's wardrobe was something that mesmerised us. Today, it is probably on your interior design dream board. Cher's wardrobe in Clueless was connected to a computer that helped her to mix and match her clothes to create outfits. It made dressing and getting ready for school appear much more enjoyable! Whereas across the pond in the UK, we started our school day off with a bowl of Cornflakes while watching GMTV, which wasn't quite as fun...

Lip gloss…that tasted good enough to eat!

If you didn't own at least 10 different lip glosses in the 90s (no matter your age) then you might want to question whether or not you were actually there...!? Everybody from the Olsen twins to Princess Diana wore lip gloss! There were Coca-Cola flavoured lip glosses, fruity flavoured lip glosses, chocolate, candy flavoured, and the list goes on. For many of us now, our makeup bags have evolved into something more sophisticated, full of high-end brands and "Instagrammable" palettes... but I'm sure few would pass up the chance to add in a fruity roll-on lip gloss if they could!
