An Interview with the GREEN FASHION WEEK Team

An Interview with the GREEN FASHION WEEK Team

This week at Online Personal Stylist, I had the pleasure of interviewing the Green Fashion Week team. Speaking as a professional working in the fashion industry, I believe that ethical, sustainable fashion is the future of fashion! Here to tell us more is Rachele Cantaluppi, Events Planner at Green Fashion Week.

  1. Green Fashion Week ♻️ is a fantastic project! Could you explain to us a little more about what Green Fashion Week is and what your organisation does?

Green Fashion Week (GFW) is a non-profit international event supported by GD Major and FSA and patronized by the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea in collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

GFW is a reference point and a privileged interlocutor for all national and international initiatives in order to enhance and promote sustainable development models within the fashion industry. It reconciles sustainability with the fashion industry, ethics and responsibility with beauty, luxury and comfort with style and elegance

Fashion designers and international companies that attend GFW contribute to promote the concept of sustainability through their collections and their products. These products made with sustainable materials and produced with the same quality care are a reflection of their dedication.

After the past editions in Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Milan, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Rome, the next edition of GFW will take place from 9th to 13th May, 2018 in GreenLandia, the first sustainable fashion campus in the world.

  1. When did Green Fashion Week start?

GFW emerged in 2015 and it became a reality with the Abu Dhabi third edition, in March 2016.

  1. What type of brands can we expect to see at Green Fashion Week?

Only sustainable designers can be part of GFW. According to us, a sustainable designer is a designer who designs high-quality and long lasting products, uses eco-friendly, recycled or regenerated raw materials, reduces waste and scraps volumes, invents new ways of using products at the end of their lifecycle and uses packaging with the minimum impact on the environment. We do also think that environmentally conscious fashion does not have to compromise on luxury and style.

  1. What advice would you give to somebody who is new to the concept of ethical fashion but would like to be more sustainable?

It is a huge challenge for anyone to be completely sustainable in fashion, but if everyone tried to change one small consumption habit, we would truly be helping the beautiful planet we live on and its future. A few things one can do to be more sustainable;

  • Instead of buying frivolously, think about our purchases
  • Are we going to wear our purchase more than 25 times?
  • Buy quality well made garments
  • Try to purchase from companies that are transparent about where their clothes are made
  • Place value on natural and organic fabrics that are kind to our planet
  • Look after your garments, give them a longer life
  • Donate unwanted garments to second hand or textile recycling schemes

  1. This sounds really exciting! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions for Online Personal Stylist. Finally, when and where is Green Fashion Week held?

You're welcome! Green Fashion Week seventh edition will be organized in GreenLandia from 9th to 13th May 2018. For further information, please visit GFW web-site at: www.greenfashionweek.org
