Membership Site Masters

Have you ever wanted to set up your own membership site? I’ve always been interested in the idea of monthly memberships to produce recurring revenue. When you think about it, there are so many services that fall into this category. Membership sites can be anything from monthly business bundles to fitness tracking apps. Even Netflix is a membership site and a very successful one at that! The author of this book, Stu McLaren, really knows his stuff and not only does he manage his own successful memberships, he also co-founded WishList – a popular Wordpress plugin for membership sites! This book is for you if you want to learn more about membership sites, get inspired about what you can create and read real-life case studies from entrepreneurs who have already done it.

7lbs in 7 Days Super Juice Diet

This one’s an interesting one and you’re probably wondering why a diet book features on this list. Just to clarify, I am in no way promoting this diet and actually, I feel uneasy about its title. However, the mindset part of this book completely transformed the way I viewed my life in every possibly way! The first part is all about the juice diet but the second half of the book is about mindset and getting you to rethink why you should be doing more with your life. If you’ve been dragging your feet over getting fit, launching a new business or trying out a new hobby then remember this: there are lots of people in the world who’d love to have the opportunity to do what you’re trying to avoid. In other words, do it because you can and because physically and mentally able to do so because so many people would love to be in your position!

Change Of Heart: What Psychology Can Teach Us about Spreading Social Change

In the last ten years we’ve seen a massive rise in the number of business owners who want to implement positive change in the world. We all have a responsibility to spread positivity and to do our bit to combat climate change and animal cruelty, among other global issues. It’s not always easy to get your audience or clients to change the products they buy or to rethink their lifestyle choices. Spreading social change can be challenging and so it’s important to know how to go about conveying your message correctly. Even celebrities and public figures don’t always get it right so I was really interesting to learn how to encourage social change and change peoples’ attitudes towards global issues. This book is fantastic and dives deep into all aspects of being a heart-driven leader.

You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth

If I’m honest, I didn’t really like the title of this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I knew that the “Badass” series of books is very popular and therefore I thought I would give it a go. In the end I couldn’t put it down. I loved it and found it really easy to read. The chapters are short and concise, which makes it more appealing to pick up and read. There are also little exercises at the end of each chapter, which I feel helps to keep you accountable when setting new goals.

The 4-Hour Work Week

At one time it was deemed cool to be busy all of the time. It was almost as though you couldn’t be successful without being incredibly busy, surviving on strong black coffee and 5 hours sleep. Maybe this was the case years ago but it’s certainly not like that now. Now, it seems like entrepreneurs do their best to show how little they work, while reaping all of the benefits from their financial freedom. I think social media plays a big part here and although I don’t buy into the perfect lives you see on Instagram or the overnight success stories you read in Facebook groups, I definitely agree that business growth is about working harder not smarter. The 4-Hour Work Week is full of tips and examples of how to cut your working hours while still getting everything done!

She Means Business

I love this book so much that I’ve read it twice. She Means Business is written by Carrie Green from the Female Entrepreneur Association. One thing I really appreciate about Carrie’s content is that she’s extremely honest and humble. Despite her aspirational success with the Female Entrepreneur Association, Carrie openly shares her struggles with overwhelm and self-doubt but why, most importantly, we should never give up on chasing our dreams. She Means Business isn’t all about Carrie’s journey. The book is compiled of inspirational quotes, snippets from Carrie’s business journal, tips from Carrie, as well as other stories from other inspirational female entrepreneurs who are doing amazing things! The chapters of this book are short and sweet so it’s easy to dip in and out of when you have a few spare minutes to read. Although, I did find this one difficult to put down and therefore read the whole book in two days.

Coco Chanel: The Illustrated World of a Fashion Icon

If you’re looking for a light, beautifully illustrated read then I’d recommend this one. Coco Chanel: The Illustrated World of a Fashion Icon is an attractive coffee table style book that incidentally highlights the amazing work of two successful women: Coco Chanel and fashion illustrator, Megan Hess. Coco Chanel may have made her fortune from her simple, black and white colour palette but her life was anything but minimal. The legendary fashion designer’s personal life was just as eventful as her career. However, if you’re only interested in the positive, professional side of Chanel’s life then this book tells her story in just enough words and lots of beautiful illustrations.

Very Good Lives: The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination

Anything written by J.K. Rowling grabs my attention is unlikely to disappoint. Back in 2010, J.K. Rowling performed a speech at Harvard University and it was a huge success! The speech depicts Rowling’s personal experiences with failure and how, if she had not failed so miserably, she may never have found the success she’s achieved today. Anybody who knows anything about the author’s life before Harry Potter will know that she experienced some seriously tough times. J.K. Rowling’s story proves that even when you’re at rock bottom in your life, it’s never too late to improve your situation.

#Girlboss

#Girlboss by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso has become the equivalent of essential reading for women looking to establish their own business. I’ve not met many female entrepreneurs who haven’t read this book but in case you haven’t, I’d definitely give it a read! Sophia’s story is really inspiring. #Girlboss is written in Sophia’s own words, which helps to bring her story to life. Reading #Girlboss made me feel as though “if Sophia can do it then so can I.” That’s no disrespect to the Nasty Gal founder but that’s how she wants you to feel and I believe that’s why the book has been such a global hit, not to mention the #Girlboss movement which was also founded by Amoruso.
